Do we keep ainsworth or not for next season He’s done his job and a great job and got us out of trouble But how far can he take us next season with his brand of football Do we let him bring his type of players in and see how we start the season I personally don’t like this type of football but I like us winning football matches It’s a difficult one really as I think we’ve rode our luck a little in our last couple of games Like to know what you guys think
I think it's a really hard question. I don't envy the decision makers at the club.
Some would say he got us out of trouble, some would say he got us into trouble in the first place?
Did he only play this way in the last 2 games to get results or would that be a long term plan?
Do 2 wins in a row give us rose-tinted glasses on a Sunday morning when after Preston/Wigan/Coventry the atmosphere and more was very different and that was only 2/3 weeks ago?
Do we let him build the squad in the summer... If so why do we need a director of football if Ainsworth is calling the shots?
A lot to ponder. A lot.
I would add Ainsworth definitely appeared to have the support of the crowd yesterday. Whether that was again just the joy of the moment or not is up for debate.
He'll stay and I'm fairly sure the football we're watching is just to keep us up.
It's interesting but the counter attacking, hitting teams on the break was pretty much how we played under Beale so it wouldn't be a million miles away if we continued doing it. It does, however, require some solid coaching in defensive duties and a change in the way the creative players work. It can work with the team we have now but I'd expect we'll see a shift in players signed over the break - don't expect flair but those with a work ethic and solid baseline ability.
The last 2 game called for desperate measures for desperate situations. And he got that right I go not think that Anisworth is a one trick pony and that he can adapt his game plan to the players or the situation that has has to deal with. only time will te but I think that he has earned his chance
One thing that I may add I that he has taught our wasteful attackers to be more clinical. Although over the last 2 game we only had 10 shots 9 of them were on target.
This was never the case under Worthinghton or Beale where we would be easily in double figures but only have 2 or 3 shots on target.
I think kensalr has it about right. Ainsworth has delivered what was needed this season - survival. Now he deserves the opportunity to build upon that. Like singlespeed, I do have concerns as to how he will form a style of play, but let's not forget: he has improved the shots on target and our defence has (somehow) created a citadel in front of the goal. The biggest concern will be losing players he wants to keep, including some of those whose contract expires.
What I hope happens is that the owners, Les and Lee are sitting down this morning and putting a plan in place to ensure we don't get into a similar situation again.
The club needs a shake up from the top down and there needs to be a strategy put in place and shared with the fans. How much interest the owners really have in the club can be debated forever and a day but if nothing changes then relegation will be a major threat again next year.
We need to accept we are at best a mid table club Not like this season get carried away because we were top of the league and started the campaign well Reading also started well and look where they are now Our home form needs to improve as loftus road was a easy 3 points for away teams recently There is so much that needs to be done
I think it is certain that Ainsworth will stay. He signed a three and a half year deal and has talked incessantly about changing the club once survival was secured. There is also the PR aspect. After the Beale and Critchley calamities, Rangers can't afford the look of then dumping Ainsworth. I think the real test will be November/December time if lousy results are twinned with lousy football. I share the trepidation about the stone age style of play we might adopt and am concerned he wants to keep Chris Martin for next season, but he has won the job for now by keeping us up when all hope loved lost.
I think it will end in tears with Ainsworth, glad he got a day like Saturday and saw us stay up with fans giving him love but we've been dreadful under him so far and need a massive improvement next season. Our style of play under him really concerns me
