I suppose that due to our current situation and our need for a goal scorer we will be linked with many of the lower league strikers. The biggest issue is that the majority of the top scorers in Leagues One and Two are either too old to meet our current buying criteria or could be just one season wonders. For me if you buy a player like Jack Marriot from Peterborough it's a major risk and I just cannot see it being beneficial to QPR. We need to learn from our purchase of Connor Washington.
Tend to agree with stoatey on this one Single. It is a big risk bringing up even a top scorer, as Washington proved. He has improved in terms of fitness and game awareness, but his finishing and ball control has not improved sufficiently; and I do not feel it ever will now. We are better off looking for a loan in January from a top London side that needs their young or out-of-favour striker to get game time. The sales are already on elsewhere but I honestly do not think the January transfer period will provide a long-term solution for us...
We are being linked again, with Washington rumoured to be going the other way.
I cannot see how his value has gone down enough from January for us to be able to afford him now.
This may just be an easy rumour to make up because of Washington's links with Peterborough.
All of that makes sense for me as we want a decent striker, Peterborough get back Washington (a known quantity) and Jack Marriot gets to step up playing for a Championship side. Having said all that, there is still the question of the fee and the desire from Washington to be included in any swap.
He has done very well this season although I'd be fearful that he might just be a one season wonder like Washington. Why not offer a million with add ons based on goals scored. Marriots record prior to joining Peterborough was just 28 goals from 91 games (1 goal every 3.25 games). Washington's league record with Newport prior to joining Peterborough was 8 goals from 48 appearances (1 goal every 6 games).

Perhaps now with Lee Hoos controlling contracts then this will happen!
Marriot has signed for Derby. £3 million rising to £5 million with add ons.
So we will get to see him in the Championship - but I hope we do not find out now that he can make the step up! Interesting to note that Derby would rather take a punt on a player unknown to the Championship than take Conor Washington...
(We need that effective striker NOW though Lee Hoos & Sir Les!)
