Here we are again then ahead of the THIRTEENTH season of the QPR Prediction League which will run throughout 2024/25. Firstly, if you are a regular player, welcome back.
If you are new to us this game is FREE and easy to play, it will literally take you a minute to enter each match and you can join in for free by becoming a site member simply by clicking here Log in to Hoops & Dreams; I guarantee you much fun awaits with promotion and relegation based on how good your predictions are!
Quick Overview for All Players:
Basically you just copy the purple section at the bottom of this post after 'How To Enter', hit reply, paste, edit your prediction and click create post. Then do the same for every match this season. Further details and rules are below, but I do everything else... all you have to do is enter your predictions for each QPR match.
There are no changes to the rules this season but all of the rules are below. The 5 point bonus for the best goal difference and parachute payments which were introduced a couple of seasons ago remain.
ONE THING ALL PLAYERS SHOULD NOTE IS THAT THE DEADLINE WILL PROBABLY BE 11.30 EVERY SATURDAY THIS SEASON DUE TO SO MANY MATCHES KICKING OFF AT 12.30 - THIS INCREASES THE SELECTION FOR THE BONUS MATCHES
Detailed Game Rules:
All you need to do is enter your predictions ahead of each QPR match day - there will be a dedicated thread for Matches 1 to 46 in the QPR Prediction League section of the site. For example Match 2 is already available HERE for you to enter now - I do the rest! Just please do make sure if you start the game that you are going to remember to enter each round throughout the season, of course remembering the midweek matches, Friday night matches etc. Please don’t enter unless you intend to play for the whole season.
And of course don't forget to enter our other prediction games The Lone Ranger and Home & Away ... Enter them all and have fun with us throughout the season!
Like the past decade our QPR Prediction League is mainly focused on each QPR match but with some bonus points possible each round too. For each match you simply need to enter your predictions in the relevant numbered Match thread in the QPR Prediction Competition section of the site. The game runs for 46 games based on every QPR match in the season with the game split in to 2 divisions and played over 3 phases, with promotion and relegation at the end of each phase. (see more on promotion/relegation below).
The scoring system has worked really well over the years and so the game is staying the same this season.
There will only be 1 cup this season based on the FA Cup. There are 5 knockout rounds in the cup, with the number of players involved reducing with each round. In a new format 3 players will make it to the final, with the winner getting 10 bonus points added to the league total in the final phase of the season, the runner up will get 5 points and 3rd place will get 2 points
Therefore if you enter the main game you will want to get involved with the cup too later in the season!
I will provide regular updates (usually promptly but at least before the next QPR match) of the ups and downs of the players along with the league tables.
For those who have not played before here is how it works.......
Each match players predict the following:
* The QPR match score (6 points for correct score, 3 points for correct result)
* The First Goal Scorer (6 points for the correct answer. You get 1 back up point if the player you predict doesn’t score first but scores at any time. If you predict 0-0 you also get the 1 back up point for there being no scorer)
* First Goal Time (3 points, one time bracket will be chosen from a choice of 6)
* Bonus Match 1 - Each round of fixtures I will select another match (usually from The Championship depending on the number of fixtures) as the bonus game of the week... 3 points for a correct score, 1 point for a correct result
*Bonus Match 2 - Goal Difference – this does not affect the overall scores but will be used to determine goal difference throughout the season. I will choose another match each round and players will simply choose a team they think will win or if they think it will be a draw. If they are correct their goal difference increases by 1 point. A wrong answer means the goal difference stays as it was previously. The higher your goal difference the better – the player with the highest goal difference at the end of the season gets 5 bonus points.
So... just 5 things to predict each round. The maximum score possible each Match is 18 points. But even on a ‘bad round’ some points can still be salvaged. The emphasis though is on getting the QPR match score correct and the first goal scorer.
If you don’t enter a Match you get a point taken off your goal difference as a penalty.
In the event that goal difference is the same between 2 players at any point in the season then the player with the highest individual match score across the season i.e 16 to 12 will be ahead. If this is tied it comes down who has predicted the most first goal scorers, then who has missed the least matches and then who has scored the least zeros.
It is a lot harder than it looks - The winning average match score is usually no more than 4 points. LurkR was champion last season despite an average score of just 3.47! Scoring 3-4 points per match doesn't look that hard on paper, but if you can do that over the season you'll be chasing the title.
As long as you can keep the points ticking over each week you are in with a great shout. And never count yourself out... we regularly have players who are near the bottom at Christmas challenging for the medals by the end.... the Christmas Number 1 has only gone on to take the title once before and that was LurkR last season. And with promotion and relegation involved you can be in The Championship struggling at the start of the season and be challenging for the title in The Premier League by the end of the campaign. Last season moldyhoop in his debut season started at the bottom and ended the season 2nd!
Promotion and Relegation
This is an explanation for new players. If you are a returning player the main thing to remember is the small “parachute payments” for players following relegation during the season.
All players are split across 2 divisions. New players will again start in Division 2 (The Championship) and will need to work their way up.
Promotion and relegation are included in the game as a result.
The QPR season will be split into 3 phases using the 46 games (games 1 to 15, 16 to 30 and 31-46).
12 players will be starting in Division 1 (The Premier League) based on where they finished last season.
The remaining players who failed to make it up to the Premier League last season and all new players will be starting in The Championship
After 15 matches this season the bottom 3 from The Premier League get relegated, the top 3 from The Championship get promoted. This will be the same process at the end of each phase.
In the Premier League there will be bonus points for those who finish in the top 8 heading into phases 2 and 3 as a reward for their position (ranging from 10 to 1 point). In The Championship the bottom 3 at the end of Phase 1 and Phase 2 get a points penalty (-2, -4 or -6) as a punishment for poor performance to make it harder – but not impossible - for them to gain promotion in the next phase.
There are also “parachute payments” which are awarded during the season only. At the start of Phases 2 and 3 the players relegated from The Premier League to The Championship get 1, 2 or 3 points depending on where they finished in the previous phase (bottom 1 point, 11th 2 points, 10th 3 points).
All points reset at the start of each full season so everybody begins 2024/25 on zero points.
The champion is whoever is top of The Premier League after Match 46
This format means there is something to play for everybody throughout the season.
At the end of the final phase of the season ahead of next season the top 3 from The Championship go up, the bottom 3 from The Premier League go down - just like after Phases 1 and 2.
These rules can make it seem more complicated than it is, and you don’t need to worry about any of it – just enter your predictions which take 1 minute each match and I do the rest. It is just a simple game to enter that is quick to play along.
