We have to keep cutting our cloth accordingly. Parachute payments are due to end. We cannot keep players on top wages. Yes we can give extra to assets.
Excellent post stoatey and you make some really good points, especially about using the money for contracts for the likes of Eze and Smyth.
We have a massively bloated squad anyway so the players leaving are surplus to requirements rather than now needing to be replaced. So we can save some money and use the rest to secure young players contracts.
Onuoha will struggle to get the same deal elsewhere. Maybe a club like Birmingham who paid huge wages to players last year or a team going down that path may try to get him but he surely has more money than anybody could ever need and if he stays on a 2 year deal he could hit 300+ matches for QPR which would be something to be proud of rather than chasing money.
Keeping them both may not be an option. We already have Hall coming back who will feel like a new signing, Lynch is under contract, Baptiste must be too - we can't afford to have so many players any more.
Good debate. I reckon that we may be able to convince Ned to stay on lower wages given his time with us and the stage of his career. It just depends if he's looking for a final big payday. Robinson will be harder. Even though he owes the club a lot, he is still young and looking to develop his career. He'll be off if he gets a better offer. Overall we still need to reduce the budget to keep within FFP as we are currently receiving parachute payments which are reducing and will stop soon. The best news is the development of Eze, Smyth, Furlong, Manning, Oteh and Chair. At best we're seeing the nucleus of an exciting young team. At worst we've got some decent players almost for free.
As today showed and our inconsistency We have weak areas and lack of depth in our squad Holloway shows his lack of tactical knowledge at times If we have to go forward next season with what we got and maybe even less on the player front It will be all about trying to stay up with as little funds as we can season in season out And we may end up in league one one day because of this
As already stated, our squad is too large and has players on PL wages. Both of these issues will be resolved as contracts end in May. Then we will say goodbye to Perch, Mackie & JET, plus probably renegotiate Onuoha's wages. On top of the savings generated from this, I fully expect Washington & Sylla to be playing elsewhere next season; so we will have funds to pay for a decent striker (although probably on a free transfer or from abroad). (Question: Will players from elsewhere in Europe be rushing to get in next season before Brexit restricts their movements?) However, the core of our squad has quality and should be used to introduce Eze, Oteh, Chair, etc.
My only concern is in regard to wingers. Ollie has (finally) realised that Wszolek is capable of both defending and attacking down the wing, but has he finally decided that Osayi-Samuel is not effective enough at either defending or attacking?
