Queens Park Rangers 1-2 Preston North End:
QPR suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of playoff hopefuls Preston North End in what was a frustrating afternoon at Loftus Road in the Sky Bet Championship.
Rangers made a considerable amount of changes going into this fixture, most noticeably with goalkeeper Alex Smithies being dropped to the bench for Matt Ingram.
This meant Ingram lined up in goal, Darnell Furlong, Alex Baptiste, Jack Robinson and Jake Bidwell made up the defence. The midfield consisted of Jordon Cousins, Massimo Luongo, Ryan Manning and Bright Osayi-Samuel, whilst Matt Smith and Eberechi Eze led the attack for Rangers.
In contrast Preston lined up with Rudd, Fisher, Clarke, Huntington, Cunningham, Pearson, Bodin, Johnson, Browne, Barkhuizen and Robinson.
The game started in a very even fashion with both sides having their fair share of chances, Greg Cunningham had Preston’s first real opportunity of the game but saw his effort saved by Ingram, in contrast Matt Smith had the hosts first real chance but he couldn’t find the target with his header.
In the 13th minute the deadlock was broken, after good work by Bright Osayi-Samuel down the left wing, he won a free kick, this was taken by Ryan Manning, with his initial cross blocked, Manning delivered a wonderful cross into the box with his second opportunity and Matt Smith was there to tap the ball home to make it 1-0 to Rangers.
After taking the lead Rangers became dominant in terms of possession, however they couldn’t carve out any opportunities in a game which had started to turn very scrappy.
Preston eventually found their rhythm and on the stroke of half time they were rewarded as Callum Robinson linked up well with Darnell Fisher, causing confusion in the Rangers box before the ball was eventually tapped home, to even the score line.
As the second half kicked off Preston were looking the more threatening side.
Idrissa Sylla had a shout for penalty waved away by the referee, this set the tone for what was going to be a frustrating afternoon for Rangers in terms of refereeing decisions, as Preston who are hoping to cap a fine season off with that last playoff place used many tactics to try and wind down the clock.
In the 74th minute Preston’s turn around was complete as a wonderful set piece was played into the box to find the head of Jack Robinson who did his best to head the ball clear, however it fell to Callum Robinson on the goal line who tapped home to put the visitors ahead.
Rangers pushed for the equaliser, with Paul Smyth seeing his shot from just inside the box blocked, but it wasn’t to be Rangers day and Preston claimed all 3 points in West London.
Player Ratings:
Matt Ingram 5- He didn’t really look comfortable all afternoon however made some good saves.
Darnell Furlong 6- One of Rangers better players, but again looked shaky.

Jack Robinson 5- A unusually bad performance from Robinson, who made many errors throughout the game.
Jake Bidwell 5- Again another bad display from someone who has performed considerably well over the last few weeks let himself down today.

Ryan Manning 6- A good assist for Matt Smith’s goal, but his overall performance wasn’t great.
Bright Osayi- Samuel 6- After Tuesday’s bright performance it was frustrating to see him struggle today.
