Hoops & Dreams World Cup 2018 Prediction Cup
Welcome to the Hoops & Dreams World Cup 2018 Prediction Cup! This is extremely simple, free and easy to play along with so do join in. It won't take you more than 2 minutes to submit your entries once you have read the rules.
This will run in the same knockout format as our recent trial which was won in a tense finale by CutePR . If your predictions aren't good enough you will be out!
If you are a new player or new member of the site feel free to play along, just make sure you can commit to playing in all of the 5 possible rounds in this Cup should you make it that far as Round 2 onwards are head to head clashes.
If you are not already a member of the forum you will need to register to play for free by clicking here: Register For Hoops & Dreams
The format of our World Cup Prediction Cup will be as follows:
Round 1: Everybody enters (open to anybody) with just the top 16 scorers overall going through to Round 2.
Round 2/Last 16: 16 players face off into 8 head to head ties and the winner from each tie goes through
Round 3/Quarter Finals: 8 players in 4 head to head ties
Round 4/Semi Finals: 4 players drawn into 2 matches
Round 5/Final - final of the remaining 2 players
The Scoring:
Round 1 will primarily focus on all 3 of England's Group Games with predictions on the scoreline, first scorer, first goal time and first team to score.
There will also be 3 bonus predictions of scoreline only for the other group games in England's group to offer a greater spread of the scoring.
Round 2 will be based on 4 last 16 matches from the World Cup, the Quarter Finals based om the actual World Cup Quarter Finals and so on. 5 rounds in the World Cup, 5 rounds here.
Remember, if you make it through the subsequent rounds will come thick and fast, so only enter if you are going to keep checking in!
Here is how Round 1 will score:
When predicting a scoreline you get 6 points for the correct score, 3 points for a correct result.
When predicting a first scorer this is worth 6 points.
A first goal time is chosen from 6 time brackets with 3 points awarded if you are correct. Predicting the team who will score first is worth 1 additional point.
As a form of goal difference you also need to predict how many bookings will occur in all 6 games as a total. The more wrong you are, the more points added to your goal difference. The aim is to be as close as possible... the lower your goal difference the better. This will be used to separate any joint scores and will carry over throughout the competition.
If things are still level I count the amount of exact scores, first goal scorers and highest score in a single match so these are used as further deciders.
That is it, simple to play, hard to be correct! 66 points is the maximum score in Round 1.
