I hope these rumours are not true. Both are 30 in a few months and it would be throwing good money after bad. As far as I'm concerned Alex Pearce is just about acceptable but Chris Martin is a big NO.

I have the same misgivings stoatey! For the Championship we need to have CBs that are fit (not prone to injury) and able to move fast when required. The older the player the less they are likely to fit the bill. I would love to believe that Grant Hall will assume the mantle of the senior CB mentoring the likes of Furlong, Kakay, Phillips and Hamalainen
I see that Chris Martin is also being linked with Leeds and it's being suggested he is on £30k/week plus is valued at £3m. The good news is that he will be too expensive for us!
Alex Pierce' s contract at Derby is up in 2019 and the suggestion is that he is on £20k/week.

That is good news about Chris Martin, although it does indicate what the club will have to pay to get a proper, decent striker! I honestly could not see what Martin offered above Smith for the expected transfer fee and high wages. I can see Smith & Smyth featuring as first-choice strikers the way this is going, and as long as we have a good attacking midfield behind them (Freeman & Eze/Wheeler/Osayi-Samuel?) then we should get better results than last season when Washington was given too much match time/goals scored or assisted.
