From what I saw online he didn't have a great deal to do so its hard to judge him from that, although when on a number of occasions he passed the ball square which went behind players, that caused us to stop going forward on a few occasions.

Could that be because he is unused to the pace of the defenders when moving forward? It must be daunting coming into a side for one game, knowing your immediate future depends upon making an impression!

Possibly, but it wasn't a fast game and they were fairly straight forward passes across the back.
ranger-boy do you know much about him as I know you follow Stevenage?
I didn't get to see too much of him as he only featured for the Youth side mostly, however I did see him in a few FA Youth Cup, Herts Senior Cup & Checkatrade Trophy matches. He seems like a composed defender who can be relied upon to do a steady job. Doesn't seem like the most vocal and will make a very occasional mistake, but overall steady and dependable.
It was hard to comment on how he played at Staines as he didn't seem to have too much to do
He played again against Swindon, replacing Grant Hall at 46 mins, so they are certainly giving him a serious look. Not sure what this means when considering players like Hammalainen and Phillips...
Its very much decision time because with just a week to go until the transfer window closes we remain a central defender short. Another big gamble will be whether the club believe that Grant Hall will get back to the form he showed 18 months ago. I had hoped that we would have seen more of Giles Phillips in pre season but he got a knock and whilst he might be on the fringes of the first team I think that McClaren prefers either Lynch or Baptiste. Leistner is guaranteed one central defender spot but we really need to recruit another experienced defender because of possible injury issues that seem to surround both Hall and Lynch. Should he be offered a contract I would see Omar Ali as more of one for the future and part of the development squad rather than one of the first team squad.
