It's a strange season where the top 6 are all confirmed with 2 games to go, and the top 2 already promoted.
It could work out as teams having needed 80 points to make the top 6 which is bonkers.
Even if we'd have had a crazy end to the season we would still have missed out.
From the stats you would assume the lower sides were poor in every department, but there have been some memorable (and very Championship) turnovers by the lower sides!
It will be interesting to see what the Premiership does with the budgeted parachute payments that were included for Norwich and Watford. The figure for next season is around £80 million and would be greater if Bournemouth join them.

Wow! I would like to say it's reasonable to give the payments to other PL sides as they have suffered financially during COVID, but that presumes that Championship sides (and lower) were not worse off financially! PL sides have proportionally far more viewers of their in-house productions and, as the production costs are virtually the same, they must be making more from their fan base. Lower league clubs had no such large fan base to provide fees through video coverage. Another kick in the teeth from the Pl sides!

Fulham join West Brom in being relegated back to The Championship
1) They will both be very tough opponents next season. As we've seen with Norwich and Watford this season clubs that come down are bouncing back more regularly, and in the case of Fulham and West Brom they are almost certain to be top 6
2) It has almost certainly made keeping Johansen harder. They won't want to sell him to QPR knowing that with him we could be strong competition next season.

Its my opinion that Fulham will want to offload him but they will want to make us or another club pay for the privilege. Johanssen has proven that in the Championship he can produce and somebody will no doubt pick up a good player. Fulham currently have 2 good young players competing for the left side position in Lemina and Onomah and I doubt that Scott Parker would even put Stefan on their bench. Lemina and Onamah are both in their mid 20's whereas Johansen being that bit older will probably not be seen as the future and if they can get a fee for a 30yo who might not get in their squad then it might be seen as good business to them.

During the pandemic the Championship clubs were allowed to defer their tax liability. The figure owed to HMRC is reported to be c.£12m for each club and is now expected to be paid over the next 3 years.
I suspect that apart from teams who are recieving Premiership parachute money the rest of the clubs will have to limit their transfer budget to take account of these payments.

That will hurt most clubs, even if it is spread over a few years!
From the Telegraph today. Not strictly a Championship posting but relevant (and there but for the grace of God could QPR have gone):
Sheffield Wednesday players have been stunned by a request from the club to be furloughed following their relegation from the Championship. It is understood the Wednesday squad, who have not received wages on time this month, have rejected the proposal to have at least some of their salaries paid under the Government’s coronavirus job retention scheme.
Darren Moore’s team were relegated into League One three weeks ago when they could only draw with Derby County on the final day of the season. It emerged players had not been paid a week earlier when they drew with Nottingham Forest. Some clubs have asked the EFL whether they could furlough players. Wednesday did not comment when questioned about their players being asked to go on furlough. Their owner, Dejphon Chansiri, has been under scrutiny over the delays to paying players last season during a campaign when they were docked six points for breaching spending rules, a penalty that cost them their place in the second-tier. The initial punishment was for 12 points, but Wednesday succeeded in reducing the amount after an appeal.
Moore was the club's third permanent manager of the season, after the departures of Garry Monk and Tony Pulis. A former Premier League manager of the year, Pulis was sacked in December after just ten matches in charge. They released 10 players following their relegation, including Keiren Westwood and Tom Lees, who had both been at Hillsborough for seven years. Joost van Aken, Kadeem Harris, Elias Kachunga, Matt Penney, Moses Odubajo, Joey Pelupessy, Adam Reach and Jordan Rhodes were also off the wage bill, with furloughing players an attempt for more savings.
Following relegation, Chansiri wrote on the club’s website and took responsibility for dropping into League One. "As your owner and chairman, I take full responsibility for everything that happens at our club," Chansiri said. "I am the leader and in good times or bad, the responsibility for Sheffield Wednesday lies with me. I am sorry to you all that we have been relegated."
To add to my post above, I have just watched the Play-off Final and Brentford had an easy win that takes them onto the PL. Well done to them, although Swansea did themselves no favours having a poor first half and even having a player sent off! Bidwell started for them and was replaced by Manning towards the end, but the whole team lacked positivity and skill. So the Swans it is next season....

I'm actually quite glad that Brentford are up, I have no issue knowing QPR need to aspire to that level on and off the pitch. Also glad we don't have another 2 derbies to contest.
