QPR 1-1 Derby County:
Geoff Cameron’s early second half goal, was enough to share the points, with Derby County at a wet Loftus Road.
Following Tuesday’s away win at Reading, Rangers went into this game in confident mood, as a result QPR named an unchanged side, with their sights set on back to back wins.
However, as the game kicked off, it was the visitors who started the brighter side, with Jack Marriott and Jayden Bogle both having efforts, which went just wide of the post. It took until the 10th minute when Nahki Wells had the R’s first real chance, but his header was comfortably saved by Scott Carson in the Rams net.
24 minutes into the game, Marriott was able to get ahead of his marker and slot home Bradley Johnson’s cross, giving Derby a deserved lead.
After going behind, Rangers quickly picked themselves up, and Eberechi Eze and Luke Freeman both having efforts and Wells seeing his long-range effort cannon off the top of the crossbar, before the half time whistle, but at the break it was the visitors who maintained their 1 goal advantage.
As soon as the second half kicked off, Eze had won a free kick on the edge of the box, Freeman ultimately took the set piece, his shot was initially saved by Carson, but he could only find Wells. Who after some good work, picked out Cameron, who drilled the ball into the bottom corner of the goal and drew the R’s level.
Following the equalising goal, the game became very scrappy, with many challenges flying in, on what seemed a very greasy surface. Derby perhaps had the best chance to take the lead with Harry Wilson, but his ferocious long-distance strike was well saved by Joe Lumley in the R’s goal.
Rangers had a corner, right at the death and perhaps could have done better, but in reflection a point for either side was a fair result.
Player Ratings:
Joe Lumley 8: Made some really top saves, in what was very tough conditions for a goalkeeper.
Angel Rangel 7: Considering he was moved to left back, for a considerable amount of the game, he looked comfortable and performed okay.
Toni Leistner 6: Looked uncomfortable on the ball at times and his mistake lead to Derby’s goal.
Joel Lynch 8: My man of the match today, played some really important balls and defended really well.
Jake Bidwell 5: Taken off early on because of injury, so hard to judge his performance today.
Geoff Cameron 7: Took his goal well and added an important physical presence to the midfield.
Massimo Luongo 6: Drifted in and out of the game, but at times he did look a threat going forward.
Jordon Cousins 7: Was moved to right back after the injury and I thought he played well considering he was out of position.
Luke Freeman 7: Again, looked good going forward, but wasn’t able to find that killer ball.
Eberechi Eze 6: Was a lot more comfortable playing in a more central position, but didn’t really have a huge impact on the game.
Nahki Wells 7: Ran himself into the ground and got a good assist, was unlucky with his effort, I feel like a goal is going to come soon enough.
Substitutes:
Pawel Wszolek 7: Played very well after his early introduction, looked a threat going forward all game.
Matt Smith 6: Didn’t have time to do anything.
Tomer Hemed 6: Didn’t do a huge amount after his introduction, but his physical presence caused some problems.
