QPR 3-0 Ipswich Town:
It was a festive treat for Queens Park Rangers on Boxing day as the R’s ran out 3-0 winners over a dysfunctional Ipswich side.
Going into the game QPR were in high spirits on the back of a historic win at the City ground over Nottingham Forest, Rangers made one change for the visit of the tractor boys as Joel Lynch returned for Jordon Cousins.
The R’s dominated the early exchanges of the game, with Eberechi Eze and Luke Freeman both having efforts saved by Dean Gerken, but the visitors held on.
Ipswich grew in confidence and started to control possession, with Chelsea loanee Trevoh Chalobah seeing a lot of the ball. But the visitors were unable to turn this possession into clear cut chances.
On the 30th minute Nahki Wells pounced on a mistake by the Ipswich defence and his long-range strike seemed to trouble Gerken enough in the Ipswich goal that he spilled the shot allowing Pawel Wszolek to tap home giving the R’s the lead.
Haven taken the lead QPR started to look a lot more threatening in attack and four minutes after the opening goal Joel Lynch headed home from a wide Luke Freeman set piece to double the home sides advantage and seemingly killing off any Ipswich threat.
At the half time whistle Rangers were cruising to their 3rd victory in succession. After the break, the visitors came out with a point to prove and Elliot Harrison and Chalobah both having chances to half the deficit but both efforts were well saved by Joe Lumley.
In the 70th minute Wells scored the goal of the game, after 20 consecutive passes involving 7 different players substitute Ilias Chair pulled the ball back to Wells who without taking a touch turned his defender and smashed the ball home to cap off what was a fine festive performance for the R’s.
In the dying moment Wells had a looping header which would have put the cherry on top of what was a fantastic performance, but it dropped just wide.
The R’s go into Saturday’s game with Reading full of confidence and looking up the table and dreaming, whereas Ipswich continue to fear the worst.
