Looked back and could not find a thread devoted to Matt Smith so:
Matt Smith went off after suffering a blow to the face while playing for QPR’s development side on Monday afternoon. The target man left the field seven minutes before half-time in the game against Watford at Rangers’ Harlington training ground, where Alex Baptiste scored the hosts’ goal in a 2-1 loss.
Defender Baptiste, back in action after injury, headed home Sean Goss’ late free-kick but QPR were unable to find an equaliser. Ryan Manning, Paul Smyth and Ilias Chair also played.
May be that Matt Smith will not travel to Sheffield on Saturday in that case. Hope he is OK but guessing Oteh would be on the bench instead. (Nice to see Baptiste scoring though!)
Aside from coming on to defend corners in the last 5 minutes when we are ahead or go route one when we are behind I'm really not seeing what else Smith offers and would be happy to see him leave.
His last start was against Blackpool where he barely won a header and looked slower than ever and in his cameos since he really does look laboured in his movement. He can't chase or put people under pressure, he is one of the heaviest footed players I've ever seen.
He'd probably start a lot more games in a league or two lower. Maybe he is happy coming on for 5 minutes here and there who knows.
