Much has been made of how much we will miss Wells,Hugill, Eze and BOS next season because their goals and assists have been huge in keeping us in the Championship.
As good as we are going forward we are poor at defending having so far conceded 67 goal which is the highest outside the bottom 3.
Individually we can measure attackers by goals and assists but apart from visually it's difficult to measure defenders. Collectively we know our defence is rubbish because they have conceeded 67 goals but here are some individual stats to show some real weak links. One of the major issues this seasons has been our defending from set pieces and how poor we are aerially. What makes this even worse in the future is that our most commanding defenders in the air have either left or are out on loan.
Aerial Duels Won/match
Leistner 4.6
Hall 4.3
Barbet 2.7
Cameron 2.7
Masterson 2.4
Manning 1.6
Ball 1.1
Wallace 1.0
Rangel 0.9
Kane 0.8
So who are those players giving away those strategic fouls in our area that lead to these goals.
I suppose it no surprise that it's Ball who concedes 2.1 fouls per match and is followed by Cameron on 1.4. Of the others, Wallace, Leistner, Manning and Rangel are just over one per game.
Who Scored Lists our Weaknesses as,
Avoiding offside
Aerial duels
Avoiding individual errors
Stopping opponents from creating chances
Defending set pieces
Defending against long shots
Defending against skillful players
Avoiding fouling in dangerous areas
So whilst we might be losing our best strikers we are also losing our better defenders.
In summary we will be left with players who can't score and our worst defenders.
What a great job Tony and Rueben are doing!
