2021/22 Pre-season Matches and talk

The Gillingham match is now off, which means we won't have an official friendly until we play Man Utd next Saturday - which will be just 2 weeks until the league kick off

Hopefully the club are busy trying to organise a behind closed doors match to replace Gillingham.

An U23 side (including Kane, Hamalainen and Ramkilde) lost 6-4 against Man Utd U23's

Against Man Utd today we start with:

Dieng
Dickie De Wijs Barbet
Odubajo Ball Dozzell Wallace
Chair Austin Willock

Subs: Walsh Kakay McCallum Adomah Thomas Dykes Kelman (so no Dunne or Kane)

Oh, and Johansen watching with his family from the side-lines after being introduced as latest signing!

Players shining in the early third: Willock, De Wijs, Dieng, Ball, Chair, Odubajo & Dozzell. Rest are not tardy either! We are matching them!!

Lovely to see Ball and Dozzell covering when one of the CBs surges forward, and equally so to see Utd confused as to who is playing where in regard to Austin, Willock and Chair as they shuffle around....

Really good performance from the Rs in particular.

Would say we might be better in future having Chair & Willock AHEAD of Austin (when they have the ball at the back) as the opposition's moves will never be interrupted properly by Charlie as he is too slow these days to chase down the ball-player!

Utd were obviously looking for a ball-playing side that would tax their playing out from the back, and they must have expected to dominate the possession. I have not seen the stats but I am pretty sure it is QPR who have dominated possession! Having said that, on the break Utd are able to exploit the slowness of our CBs who, once turned, look vulnerable. The new partnership of Dozzell and Ball in DM looks sound and we have seen Ball surge forward a couple of times, causing real concern for a Premiership defence!!

2nd half begins without Dieng (Walsh), Austin (Dykes) & De Wijs (Dunne); whilst Utd have brought on such players as Mata.....
