Prior to the club appointing Warburton the owners announced that the clubs policy was to adopt the Brentford method of signing young untapped talent and developing them with a view to selling them on.
To then appoint the man who couldn't work with that system at Brentford made no sense and was more mismanagement by our owners. Let's not forget that the Brentford method was based on a Head Coach as opposed to a manager.
If the reports are true suggesting we are now going back to the original policy and a Head Coach as opposed to a manager then effectively we have wasted 3 years. I'm not suggesting Warburton was a poor manager but rather that the board continues to mismanage.
Mark Warburton had done a great job for the 3 seasons, but for me the end of the seasons slump was too much so he had to go. i remember at the start of the season we all felt like this was a season we really could achieve something in my opinion he really missed out on a very good opportunity.
I’m beginning to change my mind on this … We all know the plan now is to develop and sell. To try to be sustainable. Last season we switched plans because we had a real chance of promotion. It didn’t come off and hopefully we didn’t do too much damage to the finances. We can’t afford another season like that so it’s time to sell 1 or 2 and bring on some U23’s. But we’ve heard that MW doesn’t think the next group are good enough. So maybe we had to part ways. Sound reasonable?
