A enjoyable and interesting podcast Nice one lads some good points š Best comment was by northwest is we need to give him time and not expect a miracle next season He will need time to establish himself in management and his own group of players to the way he wants them to play As long as we play good football and donāt go down next season he has my vote
Iād suggest his appointment and comments are good news for Masterson, Amos and regrettable Thomas. As implied elsewhere by northwest hoop and singlespeed (canāt tag as Iām on my phone), itās probably bad news for Adomah and probably people likes Dykes, Johansen and dare I say it, even possibly Jimmy Dunne
I was gutted when Warbs was released. No surprise, as (quite a lot of you know) I had been banging the Warbs drum since the start of his tenure, through the 'Warbs-out' sticky patch, and have been probably his biggest advocate on this forum.
Having been pretty scathing about the actions of the board, I now need to go on a crash diet due to all of the huge portions of humble pie I have eaten in the last few days since the appointment of Michael Beale. While we have dreaded the inevitable appointment of a Sherwood-type, like being tied to the railway line waiting for the train, the board (seem to) have known what they have been doing all along. I think the board have pulled a rabbit out of a hat. I am cautiously ecstatic (if that oxymoron is possible).
Living near Glasgow, Michael Beale seemed to be one of those worst kept secrets in football. I remember having a conversation while Celtic were still just about dominant and Rangers rapidly improving, along the lines of 'If you could take 3 people from Rangers to Celtic, who would they be?', and rather than 3 players the answers were 3 from Ryan Kent, Glen Kamara, Gary McAllister and Michael Beale. I probably don't really rate Gerrard as a manager, because all of the Rangers fans I talk to have been telling me for ages that Rangers' rise to success was all about Gary McAllister and Michael Beale.
Any how, two observations: Firstly, I totally agree with all of those who have emphasised that he needs to be given time, and when we go through the inevitable teething pains and dips/troughs in form, to keep off his back and trust the process.
Secondly, his profile/background as a youth development guru is a huge potential win when it comes to improving the academy and recruiting, and keeping, youth players. There is so much competition in London in particular for youth players; and if I was a top youth talent or father of one, and was given the choice between a money-bags Chelsea/Arsenal/Spurs set-up where few actually make it versus the real chance of maximising potential with a real, proven pathway to the first team, I would surely choose the latter.

Having been originally confused by the possibility of us getting this unknown guy in Michael Beale i was scratching my head thinking who? i then went on to think well if we do get this guy in i would rather the unknown than whoever else was on the target list, now his signing is confirmed your above post Rosco has made me quite excited.
i originally got wind we were getting in a head coach and i wrongly presumed it was going to be either Eustace or Chris Ramsey or both so that Les Ferdinand would have more input to the day to day running of the club and more input into the team and who we sign which i felt was the wrong path.
Now like you Rosco i think this is a rabbit out the hat and im really excited about the future just hope we can build some real foundations with him at the helm and if it does go wrong we stay with him.
for me you could tell MW and the board were not getting on and he was gone no matter what.
Out of interest jrperry1882 why is it bad news for Jimmy Dunne?
I wonder if Beale crossed over with Masterson in his time at Liverpool? Could be a big opportunity for him if so.
style of play possibly? If itās going to be a lot of squeezing and trying to pinch the ball in midfield then he will try to condense the pitch, meaning that the defence is likely to play a high line. And thatās not Dunneās game. We saw last season at home to Peterborough and away to West Brom, heās in a bit of trouble if heās being asked to sprint and move. Much prefers a wrestle.
I expect him to stay, canāt see the club selling him. But after a season, providing all goes well, we might see him slowly moved out of the team
Couple of things now. Are we saying Warburton to Blackpool??? That Critchley move feels bizarre doesnāt it?
on a side point, the Blackpool owners In-Laws live next door to my great uncle in Northolt ā his wife is the woman in the āMysterious Girlā in the Peter Andre music video š

Iāve seen a lot of people saying things along these lines, but what proof is there that heās the brains? Feels like something one person has said and every body has jumped on with it without concrete evidence of this being the case

Well, 2 things spring immediately to mind. One, that several of those people I know have ties to Rangers FC. They are in a position to know more than you and I, tbf. Second, that the 'one person' who has severally said this about Beale was Steven Gerrard, and he might know.

I still wonder if we will see Dion Sanderson back. I have a lot of doubts about him, but on paper he has good attributes for Beale's system.

It just feels empty without explanations how he is āthe brainsā. Its an empty statement with no visible proof. Thereās nothing to measure he indeed the brains other than people going āyeah yeah heās really goodā. Youād suggest he gets on well with the people who are bigging him up, so is it not just an incidence as having your mates as your referees on a CV?
I know the appraisal has been wider than that, and Iām not saying these people are wrong. But to me, if they are going to make an argument like that you at least need something circumstantial to prove your point. A coach putting on good drills feels bland and basic, and if thatās what makes him exceptional then what on earth are other coaches in the world doing š. Defoeās comments on him make me worry about this too. The two numbers tens for when Defoe played, thatās not groundbreaking ingenuity, itās a pretty obvious thing to do; get players close to an ageing forward so they can slip him balls in on the ground rather than asking him to run and get on the end of crosses. I donāt know, the comments just feel a bit empty. I feel the same on this when they list players heās worked with. They list them as if heās the ONLY coach theyāve worked with. Itās like saying you did well in your GCSEs because you had fantastic teacher in Year 1. I mean come onā¦. Really?
JĆ¼rgen Klopp said something similar about Željko BuvaÄ his assistant who was nicknamed the Brain. Since he left Liverpool have won every domestic and European honour, and have arguably become a better team. Youāve seen with Kloppās management style, his decision making in games, his transfers, that BuvaÄ quite clearly wasnāt āthe brainā. And Klopp is quite visibly a bigger influence at that club than BuvaÄ, whoās now at Dynamo Moscow as a Sporting Director.

I donāt think thatās out of the question at all. Dickie was linked with Wolves back in January, and now that theyāve released Romain SaĆÆss and Willy Boly doesnāt appear first-choice, Iād expect them to be after a centre-back. Sanderson may well have been a sweetener to get priority on that deal. But who knows š¤·āāļø
If Beale can get both Dykes and Bonne scoring regular goals in the Championship he will be the Messiah.
As good as Beale apparently is (from all the sources I have found) I think getting Bonne & Dykes to the 'prolific striker' level is a bit 'Mission Impossible'. Hope I am proved wrong though!
