I think the chances of having a kid at 7/8 years old and coming through are near impossible with the current rules in place, kids that age are hoovered up by the big clubs, our best chance is to pick them up when released around 15/16 and develop from there.
After Langley we did have a few come through such as Pacquette, Bean and Stefan Bailey but none of them really went on to great things
It's a tough one on the academy though, it's more than just a production line for the first team it also gives young people opportunties and an education they may not get elsewhere and you'd hope it helps to set them up for life whether they make it in football or not

Cannot argue with these comments. I would only add that the development side of the club needs to be seen as at least viable in terms of its returns, and ideally profitable. Otherwise why bother? We could go to a simpler model of poaching PL clubs 'also rans' instead. I believe we now have the facilities at Heston to attract local schoolboys and schoolgirls, but this requires locals to acknowledge the improvements and decide to send their budding star to us - rather than Chelsea, Brentford or Fulham....
