West London Sport report that Gareth Ainsworth expects QPR to sell players during a “tough summer” and operate with a slimmed-down squad next season.
Our first team squad lacks any in depth quality so its logical to get rid of the sick notes and poorer players. Hamalainin has to be offloaded as do the likes of Owens and Shodipo. In addition I think that we can say goodbye to Balogun,Amos,Masterson and Archer.
It's almost certain that we can expect offers for Chair and Willock but whether they come early or late in the transfer window we should be looking to rebuild as though neither will be with us at the start of the 2023/24 season. When you consider that we will also see the likes of Tim, Roberts, Laird and Lowe all return to their parent clubs then Ainsworth will need to already be identifying replacements.
No doubt Ainsworth will be looking for Drewe and others to step up from the B team. There will also be the interesting situation with Martin, Kelman, Armstrong and Dykes. I'm sure Lyndon will be Ainsworth's first choice but with neither Armstrong or Kelman being an established Championship striker does he offer Martin another season. There are rumours that Dykes could be on his what to Glasgow which could complicate matters further.
Today I saw a player (25yo Sam Smith, Cambridge) who has managed 14 goals (21 last season) in a struggling team and is now on a free transfer and who looks a much better option than an ageing Chris Martin or even Charlie Kelman. Personally, I wouldn't consider him a risk because we know he scores goals in League One and with decent service he could do the same in the Championship.
