I think I've seen enough of Celar... No Frey at the end!?
What could be have done tonight? He never had any clear chances and was feeding on scraps. He chased pretty tirelessly, was up against international centre backs often with no QPR player within 20 yards.
Do agree we should have brought on Frey though. Not sure why we brought on Dunne and Andersen with 10 minutes left.
Overall we did ok second half, we just conceded two really poor goals.
I don't think Palace could have complained had we taken it to pens.
OK we lost to a deflected shot and we played far too casually in the first half, but our whole team cost less than £20m - Eze alone is £60m apparently! Positives: Ashby and Walsh did well. Negative: Celar is out-jumped, out-run and outmanoeuvred far too often to be a threat up front. This was his opportunity to shine....

We could watch the whole thing over together NW and I could point out the moments where Celar could have done something... I'm desperate for him to do well but he seems complete ineffective at the moment. Doesn't seem too offer the team anything.
Still... I thought there were plenty of positives overall... I do agree with you though... We always seem make very hard work of the final third.
The good news... No more backwards and sideways passing!

I just think you put almost any other forward in our side tonight and I don't think they do any different/any better. All you can do is run about and press.
Celar needs a run of games in the league. Judging him against world class centre halves in a match when we barely had a touch in the opposition box is hard to do.
In the first half we were awful and struggled to get out of our own half. I was afraid that we could end up getting walloped but it was only a bit of naive defending that separated us as the half time whistle blew. Apart from only conceding the one goal in that first half the other plus was Saito who made a couple of threatening runs although in reality Palace were in first gear and cruising.
The introduction of Dembele seemed to spark us into life and his link up play with Smyth started to rattle the Palace defence who hadn't had to do anything for45 minutes. We need to take up Dembele's transfer option as soon as we can because in Chair's absence he has that bit of quality to open up defences.
Celar was up against Marc Guehi and its a bit unfair to judge him on this game because not only was he playing against a £60m defender but he got very little service.
When Field scored it looked like we might be in with a chance but we should have known that a quality player like Eze can always produce a bit of skill and so it proved when he made a silky turn and left our midfield behind before hitting a shot that deflected into the net.
Marti will be pleased after a much better 2nd half performance against a Premiership team but we need to perform as well for 90 minutes not just half a game. Let's hope that against Millwall we perform in both halves and that we get our first home win of the season.
I like Celar - but the service thus far as been terrible. So many times in this game he was wandering around, remote from the other attacking midfielders.

I hate to say it, but Dykes in that scenario would have come back and made a nuisance of himself....

I thought that when he came on against Plymouth and also against Luton in the cup Celar's movement was good and he showed plenty of promise. If he could get a goal I believe we will see a much more relaxed player. We saw what happened with Alfie Lloyd and just what it means to get your first goal for the club. When Lloyd then came on against Palace he was full of confidence and nearly got an equaliser. The thing with Celar that is different to Dykes, Bonne and Washington is that he does have a history of scoring goals and once he gets the first then I'm sure others will follow.
The trouble for any new signing is getting to understand the system as well as settling into a new country and getting to know your team mates. At the moment we have several new players all needing to adapt to what Marti wants and most of them probably won't speak English as their first language. If we allow these new player 10 to 15 games then I'm sure that we will see the likes of Celar, Varane and Madsen all improve.
You are both (as always!) spot on - isn't it going to be good for all of us (Celar included!) when he gets a goal... One goal changes so much. Imagine how Haaland must feel each night!
