Why the negativity towards McClaren?

Just a thought that fits in the context of this thread and how feelings towards McClaren have changed dramatically...

The true confirmation of what a good job McClaren has done is that if another team came in for him now I think we'd be genuinely disappointed to see him go. Just 2 months ago most fans would have ushered him out the door!

I'm excited to see where he can take us now, can we keep moving forwards?

I posed the above question in November and the answer has been no.

The negativity towards McClaren has started to creep back in over the last week but is back with a force tonight I've noticed.

A run like this is a very sticky patch for any manager at any club.

This thread started out with most of us agreeing that McClaren didn't have the fans behind him from Day 1 and we felt he would struggle to turn that around. But oddly enough he DID turn around opinions, so much so that most managers given our current slide would probably be feeling the brunt of the supporters a lot more. However I just feel that the tide is turning back against him.

I'm not McClarens biggest fan but he can only pick the players available to him. Unfortunately, once he got a settled team we sustained a few injuries to key players and that played a key role in turning  a winning team into losers.  We could have Pep Guardiola as manager but because we have a lack of quality players we will continue to struggle. 

Worryingly this could be as good as it gets because next season when the likes of Wells, Cameron and Hemed have returned to their parent clubs and Freeman has been sold we could be really struggling.

It's not the manager who got us into this position it's the guy who appointed the manager!

Of course McClaren's future at QPR is in doubt. Any manager in the EFL knows they have to deliver (or in Chelsea's case even delivering is not enough), otherwise you are under threat. Steve McClaren is no different from the rest and we may be getting to the stage where the directors feel that changing the manager may give the fillip needed to kick-start our recovery. I hope not, as I believe his basic management is good, but it is a results-driven industry after all.

Singlespeed is right in condemning his single-minded approach to team selection though. You cannot tell me that after all the research on the next opponent he still believes to same team and same tactics apply? Stoatey is right too in stating what we have said before: McClaren can only work with what he has got, and players like Manning, Eze, Lynch and Lumley are causing disappointment. We know what they are capable of achieving as we have seen them at their best, but currently they are not delivering...

Who would be a manager!
