I thought Hall was very good against Leeds, he grew in confidence and stature as the game went on. He always looks so comfortable on the ball. He looked fit too.
Is he going to be more involved now? Could he challenge the place of Lynch?
At Forest last month when Lynch was out injured Furlong was preferred at centre half which suggests Hall is down the pecking order but he looked good to me on Sunday!

I agree! What's more, it seemed on the video that Furlong was at fault for their first goal in that he reacted far too slowly. Hall at least spotted the danger and sprinted back, albeit to no avail. Watching both Kakay and Furlong you still see them not getting close enough to opposing players to stop crosses or ensure they do not get a free connection in the goal area. No real surprise that there is work still to be done by the training staff to improve both. They are the future and perhaps that is why they are preferred over Baptiste at RB and CB, despite their sometimes inexperience..? Like you though northwesthoop I want to see more of Grant Hall now he is fit!

I thought Grant Hall was absolutely superb last night, he never put a foot wrong. His best game in a QPR shirt for a long, long time.
He really was like the Hall of old with excellent reading of the game, great positional sense, showing some real strength, strong in the air and good use of the ball. 3 goals this season too is great for him.
After all his injury troubles let's hope he can keep performing like that because he is a class act when fit and in form.
Spot on Northwest. I would like to see him play in a slightly advanced position as he did under Olly. I think he would be better in the role than Cameron and that would allow Barbet back in to the team.

That isn't a bad idea because we clearly need to stick with the 4 at the back and neither Leistner or Hall would be easy to drop right now. Leistner and Barbet is a good centre back pairing with Hall sat in front of them.
I can't see it happening though because nobody has used Hall in midfield since Holloway, it must be 2-3 years now given all his injuries since he played there.

Lots of noise around that Grant Hall will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
We clearly couldn't afford to keep Pugh who was allegedly one of the higher earners and one would have to assume that Hall is amongst the higher earners too considering he joined in 2015 when we were paying much higher salaries.
Should we be looking to break the bank to keep him?
He has been a lot more consistent and largely injury free this season and of course is the current club captain!

As things stand I can't see Hall being one of our starting centre backs next season, and unless Warburton sees him playing a central midfield role then he would be an expensive centre back to have on the bench. Whilst Masterson did well when he came into the team I think Warburton will be looking for a more dominant and commanding centre back who will be made captain.
Scott McKenna is going to be too expensive but I'm certain that Warburton will be looking to bring in somebody similar.
A lot will also depend on how much Warburton will get to spend from the sales of Eze and BOS because as with previous seasons we are weak down our spine. In addition to the commanding centre back we also need a dominant midfielder and a goal scorer.

I think it all revolves around whether the club signs a cheaper alternative to cover for Masterson in that role. It would be nice to think that Hall would remember when the club helped him during his prolonged injury, and therefore there was some loyalty, but I will not hold my breath. Hall (who is a ex-Lewes and ex-Brighton player so local to me) might equally think that the injury is reason enough to grab the best deal he can. After all, he saw Robinson do just that! The club might equally decide it needs a CB who is faster, so he cannot be 'turned' so easily; and, as stoatey rightly says, a captain who does not just lead by example but is vocal in galvanising team efforts. (I have always thought that Dominic Ball is a good choice from the current squad.)
It is a very odd situation that Pugh and Hall have left when we still have 9 games of the season left.
We have an unbelievably threadbare squad and when this season does end we will be rushing to fill in the gaps if next season comes around quickly. It looks like the turnaround will be as high as last summer, especially when we factor in replacing the loan players.

Ha! I have just added the news to a new thread under Transfers!!
So much for loyalty after paying him for his long periods of injury, although not surprised too much. I am sure the contract value was less than he was on this season. That leaves us with Masterson and Barbet as the first choices - no problems there for me; but their cover is Ball or Cameron or Wallace from the first-team squad and otherwise an U23s CB. Given we can expect injuries, even to those who might be expected to cover, we are indeed looking threadbare!
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: So our 'Captain' has gone. Whom do you want as his replacement? I have said before Dominic Ball and will stick with him.
