Whilst I'm never going to be one of Hugill's greatest fans I was a fan of big Matt Smith who was a very similer type of target man striker.
Their career scoring records arent too different although this season Smith goals to games ratio is cleary better than Hugills. If we were to sign Hugill on a permanent transfer it would be a step backwards IMO.
Ideally (although we are talking 'hens teeth' here) we should be looking fr an established, young striker who is comfortable with both holding play and ball-distribution. Sadly that means we are looking in League One or abroad - along with all the other Championship clubs!
Totally agree kingfisher. The challenge is finding that young prospect before he becomes established and his fee becomes prohibitive. The club will need to take a risķ and hopefully it pays off. We had a chance last year when Lawrence Shankland was free but didn't take our chance and now he will cost several millions.

Dead right there stoatey and, judging by the games we have seen so far this season, I suspect that more than the usual number of Championship sides will be looking for a new striker!
Apparently Gubbins & Kelly had a goal-mouth mix-up that resulted in one of the goals against us, and Manning did not convert a penalty (but blasted a few shots that went wide in normal play). Hammalainen crossed for Alfa to get our goal.

Everyone of those players who played against Millwall U23's today has been considered good enough to have appeared in our first team and several of them will be part of the team that plays Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
footballleagueworld.co.uk/qpr-confirm-multiple-player-agreements-reached/ With that in mind, the Championship side announced on their official site this afternoon that five players from the development squad will be playing their football elsewhere for now. Joe Gubbins, a defender, has signed for Oxford City on an initial one-month loan deal, where he will join fellow R’s youngster Aaron Drewe, who made his debut for the side in their FA Cup qualifying win on Saturday after signing the day before.
Meanwhile, Charley Kendall and Kai Woollard-Innocent completed moves to Eastbourne Borough towards the end of last week and they both scored in an FA Cup penalty shootout victory for their side three days ago. Finally, keeper Marcin Brzozowski has linked up with Billericay Town, the National League South side who are managed by Jamie O’Hara. That deal will run until New Years’ Day.

Playing in the National League will improve these youngsters and will them the chance of pitting themselves against some experienced players .
It seems most were getting game time, apart from Wallace who was proving his recovery from injury, but Kelman is showing real promise and needs to be playing as much competitive games as we can manage. If Dykes, in particular, gets injured or suspended then he needs to be ready to start or be oready on the bench!
ive heard alot about charlie kelman he can be easily as good as adam armstrong of blackburn i think once we play him he will prove how good he is
Yes the proof is in the pudding, but we have to be careful we do not bring him on too soon to cope with the Championship and risk him losing confidence or getting a niggling injury.
It's good to see Charlie Kelman scoring goals in what is a very poor U23 team. We have now lost our last 5 games and prior to this game had scored a paltry 3 goals.
When you consider we had first team squad players like Kelly, Wallace Ball and Bettache playing in the game it's frightening how lightweight we are. The performance was so typical of QPR teams, dominant early, opposition score against the run of play and go on to win easily.
I see that Hull's first goal was as a result of Kelly getting caught out. Nothing changes!

I was thinking also about how poor the U23s have been recently too and what little difference the first-team players included for this game had made. I did wonder if Wallace in particular was told to go easy (as he tests his injury), but no excuse for Bettache, Ball or Kelly I would have thought - unless they do not take these games too seriously..?
