In highlighting that Jordan Hugill has scored 15 goals this season it got me looking into our goal scoring stats for this season.
It made me realise how many goals we could be losing from the team for next season.
We've already lost Wells who scored 15.
Hugill is very, very unlikely to be here next season. I can't see how we can afford to have him on loan again and West Ham will probably be looking to part ways permanently after him spending the last 2 seasons out on loan.
So that's 30 goals lost.
I think most of us expect Eze and Osayi-Samuel to leave. That's another 12 and 6 goals conceivably gone out of the team.
48 goals lost.
Our next highest scorers?
Grant Hall and Ilias Chair on 5 each.
Hall of course is already gone.
53 goals lost
Out of our top 6 scorers this season in all likelihood 5 won't be here next season.
You can go further down the list too.....
Manning is on 3 (could also leave).
Amos and Pugh have 2. Pugh already gone, Amos only on loan.
Nobody else has more than 1 goal!
These goals will be very, very tough to replace whilst still moving the club forwards.
What makes it all the more frightening is that the new season is not far away (29 August 2020 or 12 September 2020) and it's not just a goal scorer or two that we need.
You know my thoughts about TF and I can't see him spending any of the money we get from selling the likes of Eze and BOS. We need to be investing in decent young players but they cost money.
We are going to be reliant on signing free agents and loan signings. There will be some decent players available but unless we have had a chat to their agents already they will be going elsewhere. Warburton and Les will have known for months who they were releasing and who they are likely to sell so there is no excuse to not get in early and recruit the better free agents. Of course they can only do that if they have done their homework to find out who is going to be available.
I'm not going to hold my breath though because we always seem to be behind other clubs as can be seen by our start after the Covid break. Other clubs players seemed to be fit and ready but we were a couple of weeks behind everyone else.
As a club we are very lacklustre in the things we do and we always seem to want to leave any action to late in the day, normally when the horse has bolted!
Hugill certainly surprised me and proved his doubters wrong with his 15 goals he’s physically like Charlie Austin was but a bit faster, just think if we kept Wells where we would be now hugill has been a decent signing after all and he will be snapped up by another team next season Scary knowing 30 goals were from 2 on loan players too

Some of these players are now over the hill but a few of them could be good experienced additions to the QPR team.
For a young out and out goal scorer with a future TF will need put his hand in his pocket but these players are available. Lawrence Shankland of Dundee Utd scores goals for fun in Scotland as does Kevin Nesbitt at Dunfermline. Both are in their early 20's, both stand over 6ft and both score plenty of goals. Every signing is a risk but if you get one to pay off then you reap the rewards both on the field and from a future transfer fee.

I completely agree, and I think the concern is we won't be able to afford to loan in players of the quality of Hugill and Wells next season. We know we'll be reliant on loans and free transfers but even in that market we'll have to lower our expectations from 12 months ago as we won't be able to compete.
Players who score 15+ goals are hard to come by when we are scratching around trying to get them on a free or late loan deal. We got lucky bringing in both Wells and Hugill. But for every Hugill there is a Mlakar! If we only end up with players of that quality next season we are doomed!
Players that score 15 goals in a season probably won't be released by their clubs in the first place. And if we are looking to sign one for a fee if they've scored 15+ goals they will no doubt be out of reach for us now.
So then we are having to take gambles. It could work out, but we are effectively losing all the goals in the team! It's a huge transfer window ahead and the toughest one ever considering it will probably all have to be done in 1 month.

Obviously most of those you diligently listed are being released because they are no longer wanted, and many off that list will not fit the style of play Warburton is demanding, but there may well be some gems there! I do agree that Shankland must be worth a really good look! northwesthoop is right to raise the subject of goalscorers leaving and we should remember that our style of play does leave us open at times, so us scoring is more important than usual. Like jimjams, I have to believe that the club will 'do the business' and get good players in. Overall they did well this season in their choices of contract and loan players, so I have to be optimistic for next season's picking too!

Loan deals will always be a bit of a lottery and Warburtons signings this season have proved the case with 3 working and 3 being very disappointing.
The best was Nahki Wells who was really a Steve Mclaren signing from the previous season when he did a reasonable job and he did even better this season when we loaned him again.
Hugill will never be prolific but he does a job and has been the only choice as our main striker since Wells went to Bristol.
Luke Amos has done an ok job and whilst he can sometimes be out muscled he looks the type to improve.
The 3 big failures have been Jan Mlakar, Mat Smith and Jack Clarke who just weren't up to Championship football.

I am not sure whether the 3 listed unsuccessful loans were a question of 'Hobson's Choice' (best of what was on offer to top-up the squad) or whether the club genuinely saw promise. In a way we should be glad they were not actual signings tied to long contracts!
If last night without Hugill was a taster of our threat on goal for next season it doesn't bode well - and that was with Eze and BOS on the pitch!
It's worth saying once again that my biggest frustration at the moment with Warburton is that he (and the club) go on about attacking football and entertaining the fans and we don't seem to be seeing that. We've slumped back into the same type of play and matches we witnessed under various recent managers.
We've only had 12 shots on target in 5 games since the resumption in play.
We've only scored 16 goals in the last 16 games. Hardly the swashbuckling stuff we were promised.

Exactly! We have moaned about Hugill's performances in the past but last night needed the attacking midfielders to 'stand up' and support a rookie striker. They did not!
When Hugill got injured it highlighted just how threadbare the squad now is and also highlighted how naive this guy really is..
In January when Warburton knew that Wells was going to leave he took the decision not to replace him with a striker but instead decided to bring in Jack Clarke. Only Warburton knows why but maybe he thought Clarke was a striker (Probably thought he was getting Alan Clarke from the Don Revie days). After all he thinks Todd Kane is a defender and Kelly is a goalkeeper).
Of course it was inevitable that Hugill would get injured and it doesn't matter how many times he now tweaks the formation we will struggle for goals.
Warburtons signings have been pitiful and in some cases just downright strange. Admittingly they were mainly freebies which endear him to the owners but it shows how much we have declined since TF and RG took over.
Problem with warburton he thinks all our goals should come from open play and that takes a good team to acheive that how many goals had we actually scored from corners and set pieces and freekicks not many, and with many other teams different players chip in with goals because they have a plan B A good example is millwall not attractive to watch but get goals when needed,do not rely on 15 goal strikers without hugill and wells, we would be playing league one football next season, its as simple as that, thats how important they were
It looks like Hugill will not recover from his injury before the end of July so does that mean he has played his last game for us.
Interestingly the report also stated that when we took him on loan for the 2019/20 season the agreement was that we would pay £20,000 per week of his £33,000 per week wages with no additional loan fee.

So he cost us around a million pounds for the season if that is accurate!
