West Brom pair Charlie Austin and Sam Field are expected to complete permanent moves to Queens Park Rangers ahead of the summer transfer window opening. Albion loaned both Austin and Field to QPR in January as they sought to trim the fringes of the squad and help to create room for the loan signings that Sam Allardyce targeted.
Austin, particularly familiar with his current surroundings, has scored an impressive eight goals in 21 appearances since returning to the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium. The 31-year-old, who turns 32 at the beginning of July, has been under contract at The Hawthorns for two years but Albion do have the option of extending that stay by a third. Yet that would appear unlikely, despite Albion’s return to the Championship, and at any rate QPR are keen to retain the forward’s services heading into the new campaign.
I'm a big fan. He reminds me of Faurlin, with that lovely left foot and eye for a pass but he's a decent height so is deceptively physical and snapping into tackles.
I'm confident he'll be a big player for us in the coming years. Actually surprised West Brom have let him go now they are relegated, but I think this move is more Field wanting a fresh start and to play at a club where he feels important and wanted.

Great to hear that deal has been confirmed! Like you I am a great fan of Field.

Just when the positivity was building not only could the assistant be leaving but Sam Field has now been injured in training. Could be a bad one as he's having scans.
I get the impression with Field he has top level ability but injuries are holding him back (hence why we are able to have him at QPR)

The club have put out a tweet which sounds ominously like the one they put out when Amos got injured last year. The fact he needs a scan suggests it isn't just a "knock".

It will be disappointing if he has got a serious injury but like Amos we knew when he was signed that he is susceptible to knocks. Hopefully, the scan is precautionary and it's nothing too serious.
Whilst it isn't good that he has an injury we do have other options and I'm not even sure that Warburton would see him in the starting XI. In the last 5 games of last season he never started one and Chair tended to occupy that position to accomodate Willock playing just behind Dykes and Austin.
With Dozzell and Ball beiing right footed that also gives us different options. The biggest issue for me is the left side of midfield and whether Johansen re-joins. Amos is left footed and could do a job in that role but like Dozzell he remains a bit unproven at Championship level.

The only proven alternative is Dom Ball, and he would be second choice to Field of course. I cannot see MW putting Dozzell in at the 'deep end' right at the beginning of the season. Now though we have to worry about any further injuries in the DM during the 'friendlies'. The scan could indeed be precautionary (to determine more about the swelling), rather than an indication of a tear or a more serious fracture; so let's hope that is the case.....
