Absence from our team had nothing to do with ability, simply managerial opinions on him. For those against this move, waiting to see the evidence that he was ‘out of his depth’ or ‘not good enough’ for this level.

I am looking forward to seeing him doing his victory somersaults upon scoring (and if he does well me eating humble pie)!
Does this mean Charlie Kelman is discarded or what? How will they play Smyth - him instead of Martin and alongside Dykes or on the wing?

If we hadn't previously had Smyth at QPR his signing might be viewed as more positive. I'd agree that on first impression his signing isn't the most inspiring because in his first spell Smyth's play could be naive and he was easily dominated physicality because of his slight frame. The positives were he had pace and was a tricky player.
After 2 years away getting experience in the lower leagues and hopefully spending a bit of time in the gym we will see a physically better and more improved player. Smyth has the potential to be a good player and apart from paying his wages he's free. Another plus is that Smyth will know many of our players and it shouldn't take him long to settle back in.
Even if he's not up to Championship football there will be plenty of clubs who would willingly take him on loan because they know he's proven in the lower leagues.
Hopefully he has a season like Stuart Wardley did a few years ago Not a very physical player either but got 14 goals He will want to prove he can cut it at this level But we haven’t found a gem for a long time and I just don’t feel this lad for all his effort will make that much impact in games You just never know he might have a great season
